Joshua “Josh” Blake Sullivan was raised in Hokes Bluff, Alabama. After graduating from Hokes Bluff High School, Josh attended Gadsden State Community College on a music scholarship and played in the Gadsden State Show Band. In 1996, he transferred to Jacksonville State University. While attending JSU, Josh served as an intern for U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt and a summer missionary with the Etowah Baptist Association. He graduated summa cum laude in 1998 with a B.A. degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics. Josh was also a member of Pi Sigma Alpha (National Political Science Honor Society).
From there, Josh went on to attend the University of Alabama School of Law. He received his Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2001.
After graduation, Josh returned home and has since practiced in Etowah County, Alabama. From 2001-2014, he practiced law with the firm of Henslee, Robertson, Strawn & Sullivan, LLC.
In 2015, Josh joined forces with the other partners to establish the law firm of Knowles & Sullivan, LLC. Through their experiences and background, they have earned a reputation of providing high quality and sophisticated legal services while maintaining an uncompromising standard of professionalism. Josh practices primarily in the areas of business/corporate law, contract law, labor and employment discrimination (employer), arbitration, workers compensation, appellate practice, civil litigation, estate planning, tax law, probate law and real estate law. Josh has successfully litigated and tried many jury and arbitration cases throughout his practice. In addition, Josh has proudly represented some of the leading businesses in Alabama, offering an entrepreneurial-minded, common sense approach to the law. He works closely with his business clients on a wide range of business and employment law issues.
In addition to his law practice, Josh is involved in several community organizations. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Gadsden and serves as a board member of the Kiwanis Club Foundation of Gadsden, Alabama. He serves on the Credentials Committee for the Etowah Baptist Association. Josh previously served as the President of the Etowah County Inns of Court. He is also active in North Gadsden Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon and chairman of the finance and personnel committees.
Josh is a member of many legal and professional organizations, including the Alabama State Bar, the Etowah County Bar Association, and the Etowah County Inns of Court. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama and Alabama Supreme Court. Josh has been previously admitted pro hac vice in state and/or federal courts in Georgia, Florida, Kentucky and Ohio.
Josh is married to Deborah Holman Sullivan. They have five children (John Riley, Audrey Kate, Sanders, Hudson and Anna Rae). Josh and Deborah have a strong passion for adoption and have adopted two children from China.
